Game Explanation

M.I.N.I Adventure is a single-player, 2d top-down pixel art arcade horde battler where enemies drop various upgrades to help the player (Mini) survive for as long as possible.

My role and process

I was the UX/UI designer working in-engine. Specifically working on the in-game UI and the different menus in the game.

I used Unity for the game engine, Aseprite for all my pixel art, Figma for mockups and ideation, Github for version control, and trello for tracking tasks.

Early development

Design Philosophy

Mini’s Adventure is a game that can be played on a PC and an arcade machine. Therefore, the UI would have to be made to accommodate both mediums.

Early on, I decided it should be as simple as possible so the player doesn’t have to look at the UI elements unless they absolutely need to or they want to.

For the theme of the UI, I wanted it to feel simple but futuristic, with the idea being that the player character MINI is looking at their own screen that is on their robotic body.

Iteration

Throughout this project, there were many iterations before the final product came to be. However, the theme of the design was found early on in the project. Making iteration and fine-tuning easier later in the project.
